The weather is warming up (finally!) and it’s time to start thinking about sunshine, outdoor activities and… cooling. You don’t want to be caught with a broken down air conditioner when the asphalt starts melting.
Tuning up your equipment is the best way to ensure that you get the most out of your air conditioner while lowering your utility bill.
Here are the critical components you need on your tune-up list.
Your condenser coils need cleaning to keep the heat transfer up and maximize efficiency.
Your blower fan must be cleaned and oiled to reduce friction, lower energy consumption and keep it in working order.
The evaporator coil needs to be inspected for leaks and damage to coil fins which can cause problems with refrigerant and heat transfer.
Your air filter should be cleaned or replaced four times per year on average. If you haven’t done it recently, your filter should be cleaned or replaced.
Your drain pan collects the condensate from your evaporator coil. Your drain pan needs inspection for damage, which can cause leaks. The drain line should be inspected for blockages as this can cause your drain pan to overflow, especially as the humidity rises.
If your control system isn’t working properly, you run the risk of using more energy or having your system fail completely. Your thermostat should be calibrated and all control wiring inspected.
