- Thermostat cleaning: before each heating season clean the thermostat

- Furnace won’t turn on: ensure the system has power, switch is “on,” motor hasn’t overloaded, has fuel and there is no fuel line blockage
- Burner won’t fire: check fuel levels and determine if there is ignition spark
- Heat supply is weak: first check to see if the thermostat is set too low. Then check the air filter to determine if it’s dirty, or if the blower or registers are blocked, clogged or closed
- Furnace constantly turns on and off: typical culprits include a dirty air filter or oil filter. Sometimes the motor or blower needs lubrication, or the blower is clogged
- Noisy: perhaps the access panels are just loose or the motor/blower needs lubrication. Other reasons could be the belt sticking from being worn or damaged. It could also be that the burner is dirty and making a noise.
